Who uses the Internet, for what, and when?

October24

I found this fascinating quote today:

In the first half of this post, we showed unlike European Internet traffic which peaks in the early evening and then drops off until the next day’s business hours, US Internet traffic reaches its peak at 11pm EDT and then stays relatively high until 3am in the morning.

The IM graph above shows traffic reaches 80% of peak by 10am and stays above 80% until midnight (with a 5pm EDT peak — perhaps related to millions of users making dinner plans). Interestingly, email exhibits a very different pattern and plummets by more than 30% immediately after 5pm EDT.

Digital Anthropology & The Shift: Web 2.0

August8

Leave it to Michael Wesch, a Cultural Anthropolist from Kansas State University to provide a video titled “The Machine is Us/ing Us” to form a clearer picture of the shift that the Internet and Web 2.0 is creating.

CLICK THE VIDEO TO WATCH:

Watch this video CLOSELY as Professor Wesch explains how the internet evovled…because of US.

This was THE “aha” moment for me – a simple, visual explanation that, I think, offers amazing insight into the the Internet explosion from the beginning of the first pioneer browsers and websites up to today, and Web 2.0.

So many people I talk with are still trying to define the Internet, and Web 2.0 for themselves so they understand it better.

If, like me, you are a student by nature, then you will also be interested in how this video came to be – why did a Cultural Anthropologist create a video about “Digital Anthropolgy”?  A video made by one of his students during a class lecture shows Professor Wesch explaining how the video came to be.

As most of my readers know, I am a full-time student, pursuing a Masters Degree in Internet Marketing. I want to thank my Instructor, Carol Cox, for sharing this video in our Internet Business Model class. The information is amazing!

Stop Big Telco’s Internet Ripoff!

June17

Here we go again.

Tiered pricing by “Big Telecom” was eliminated in 2000 as a result of customer pressure and FCC rulings for fair internet access.  It was confusing and still is.  You can’t tell how much you have used until you get your bill – then it can be a really ugly surprise – especially if you watch tv or movies or play online games.

Now Big Telco (Time Warner Cable, Comcast and AT&T)  are back at work coming up with ways to limit your access to the internet AND charge you EVEN MORE MONEY!

You must ACT NOW to stop this shameless profiteering by Time Warner Cable, AT&T and Comcast.

Click HERE to send a letter to your representative in support of the “Broadband Internet Fairness Act” introduced today by N.Y. Representative Eric Massa.

Can any of us really afford to pad their profit margins, especially right now? I think not!!

CLICK HERE – it will take you less than 3 minutes to fill out your name and address, send it, and then add 5 or more people you know to send it, too.

If we fail to act, they will win and we, again, will lose. ACT NOW!
